MSU To Host Lewy Body Dementia Support Group For Patients And Caregivers

June 7, 2019

GROUP TO MEET FOURTH THURSDAY OF THE MONTH STARTING IN JULY

A new support group is coming to Michigan State University for patients with Lewy body dementia and their family members/caregivers.

Starting in July 2019, patients with Lewy body dementia (LBD) and their caregivers are invited to attend support groups hosted by the Rinne Lewy Body Dementia Initiative, a program of the Michigan Alzheimer’s Disease Center. The groups will meet at the same time as one another on the 4th Thursday of the month from 10:00-11:30am at Senior CommUnity Care of Michigan PACE located at 1921 East Mille Road, Lansing, MI, 48911.

The group is open to patients with Lewy body disease as well as Parkinson’s with dementia. While those living with Lewy Body Dementia are gathering together, caregivers will also meet in a separate space.

Lewy body dementia is a brain disease that impairs thinking and often mobility. Common symptoms include hallucinations, sleep disturbances, stiffness and fluctuating levels of awareness. These groups will allow you to meet with other people who have similar diagnoses, learn more about the disease, and access additional resources.
